About Dr. Chad V. Johnson, PhD

I am an Associate Professor in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at the University of Oklahoma and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the OU College of Medicine. I am a licensed psychologist with over 25 years of experience in psychotherapy, consultation, training, supervision, research, and teaching.

My work often engages questions of meaning, identity, grief, spirituality, and life transition, as well as emerging areas such as psychedelic-assisted therapy and advocacy. I bring a warm, attentive, and relational presence to each session, aiming to meet people where they are and to take their experience seriously. I see therapy as a collaborative exploration of life’s challenges, possibilities, and uncertainties.

I have traveled extensively for work and pleasure, visiting Europe and Asia more than 50 times. As an instructor and consultant, I have offered courses and consultations in human relations, mental health, relationships, trauma, and post-deployment reintegration to the U.S. Armed Forces on military installations around the world.

Outside of work, I am endlessly curious and often immersed in new interests. Over the years these have included creative writing, photography, watch collecting, fly fishing, motorcycling, bird watching, camping, cocktail mixology, and language learning—among many others. I live in Tulsa, OK, with my wise and witty spouse, Emily, Esq., our four terrific kids (Austyn, Gabriel, Roman, and Eisen), our dog, Ruth Bader Dogsberg, and our cat, Gromit the Huntress.
